All-CCIW Teams
Feb. 23, 2009 - North Central College's Chris Drennan (Sr., Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) and Matt Rogers (Sr., Rochelle, Ill./Rochelle) have been honored with selections to the 2009 All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Men's Basketball Teams, as voted on by the CCIW's head coaches.
Drennan was one of five players voted to the First Team, while Rogers was selected to the six-player Second Team.
Drennan is an All-CCIW honoree for the second straight year, having earned Second Team honors as a junior. He finished the regular season ranked fifth in the conference in scoring (16.1 ppg) and field-goal percentage (.565), while ranking eighth in rebounding (5.3 rpg). He became the 21st 1,000-point scorer in North Central's history on Feb. 11 at Carthage College, and currently ranks 19th in school history in scoring with 1,050 points. He also ranks second in career field-goal percentage (.569).
Also being named to the All-CCIW First Team were Kent Raymond of Wheaton College, Steve Djurickovic of Carthage, Brent Ruch of Elmhurst College, and Chandlor Collins of Augustana College.
Rogers, meanwhile, is an All-CCIW selection for the first time after putting up 13.4 points per game. Rogers has been at his best against conference opposition, ranking sixth in the league with 14.9 ppg. In two seasons, he has scored 777 points (15.5 per game) while shooting 51.0 percent from the floor.
Also named to the Second Team were Ryan Burks of Elmhurst, Tunde Ogunleye of Millikin University, Andy Wiele and Ben Panner of Wheaton, and Matt Pelton of Augustana. Nick Williams of North Park University, Brett Wessels of Augustana, Sean Fendley of Carthage, Robert Strzemp of Elmhurst, and Doug Sexauer of Illinois Wesleyan University comprised the All-CCIW Third Team.
Raymond was named the winner of this year's CCIW Fred Young Most Outstanding Player Award, while Wheaton head coach Bill Harris was selected the CCIW Coach of the Year.
The Cardinals (16-9) are seeded fourth in this weekend's CCIW Tournament, and travel to Wheaton to face the top-seeded Thunder in Friday's first round. Tipoff at King Arena is scheduled for 8 p.m.
