CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. (Mar. 13, 2010)-- The North Central College men's tennis squad returned to the courts after a two week layoff on Saturday, dropping a tight 5-4 decision to Milwaukee School of Engineering before falling 7-2 to Division I Western Illinois University in the nightcap.

Sam Sweeney and Matt Boguslawski finished off the weekend unbeaten at No. 1 doubles, breezing by MSOE's Juan Diego Montenegro and Zach Weaver, 8-1, before claiming an 8-6 decision over Western Illinois' Francisco Ortiz and James McGuire. The wins keep the pair unbeaten in doubles this season, improving to 4-0.

In singles, Sweeney rolled to a pair of victories at No. 1, toppling MSOE's Dustin Holzhauer, 6-1, 6-0, before knocking off the Leathernecks Jeff Cote, 6-2, 6-4, later that night. Boguslawski defeated the Raiders Max Orhland, 6-3, 6-0, and held the early lead against WIU's Francisco Ortiz, before ultimately succumbing, 4-6, 6-3, 10-8, in No. 2 singles.

Chris Bennorth needed three sets to put away MSOE's Mark Schadler, 6-4, 3-6, 16-14, before falling, 6-1, 6-0, to WIU's Patrick Hammers.

North Central (1-3) returns to the courts on Saturday, Mar. 20, squaring off against the College of Staten Island (N.Y.) at 3:30 p.m. in Orlando, Fla. The Cardinals will play six matches in a three-day span in Florida.
