ORLANDO, Fla. (Mar. 23, 2010)-- The North Central College men's tennis squad closed out its six-match spring break trip to Florida on Tuesday, suffering a 5-4 setback to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and a 6-3 decision to Calvin College (Mich.).
Against the Titans (11-4),
Matt Boguslawski and
Sam Sweeney earned an 8-3 victory in No. 1 doubles in what proved to be the Cardinals only win in doubles in the match.
In singles, Sweeney blanked the Titans No. 1 man, James Lewison, 6-0, 6-0, while Boguslawski had little trouble at No. 2, disposing of Nate Kilsdonk, 6-2, 6-0.
Josh Clay claimed the Cardinals' third singles win of the day, earning the, 6-0, 6-4, victory over Todd Fuller in No. 5 action.
Against Calvin (5-1), the Cardinals' No. 1 tandem of Boguslawski and Sweeney continued their early season dominance, rolling past Roland Eldridge and Preston Phillips by an 8-1 count. With the win, the duo have now won nine of their 10 matches in 2010.
In singles, Sweeney posted the, 6-1, 6-2, win over Eldridge at No. 1 while Clay was once again victorious at No. 5, taking down the Knights' Brian DeMaagd, 7-6 (4), 6-2.
The Cardinals (2-8) take the rest of the month off, returning to the courts on April 10 when they travel to Rock Island, Ill. to face the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at 12 p.m. before opening up College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play later that day at 3 p.m. against the host Vikings of Augustana College.
