Rock Island, Ill. (Apr 10, 2010)-- Sam Sweeney finished the day undefeated in singles but it was not enough as the North Central College men's tennis team fell 8-1 to regionally-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater before opening up College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play with a 6-3 loss to host Augustana College.

Against eighth-ranked UW-Whitewater, Sweeney and Boguslawski pushed the region's top-ranked doubles squad to the brink before ultimately succumbing, 9-7, to Danny Glinert and Kelvin Caiati in No. 1 action.

Sweeney would get revenge in singles, taking down Glinert, 6-3, 6-2, for the Cardinals' only win against the Warhawks (14-8).

In the CCIW opener, Sweeney and Boguslawski posted the 8-5 victory over the Vikings' Chris Mullin and Adam DeSimone at No. 1 doubles, improving to 10-2 on the season.

In singles, Sweeney extended his win streak to nine matches, rolling past Augustana's (16-7, 0-1 CCIW) DeSimone, 6-3, 6-0 in No. 1 action to improve to 10-1 on the season. Boguslawski picked up the, 6-1, 6-3, victory over Will Palmer at No. 2.

North Central (2-10, 0-1 CCIW) returns to the court on Tuesday, hosting Carthage College at Ranchview Park with matches slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
