Apr. 14, 2010-- Facing its toughest opposition of the season, the North Central College men's tennis squad ended up on the wrong end of a 9-0 decision against 15th-ranked University of Chicago in a non-conference dual match at the Stagg Field Courts.

The Cardinals' No. 1 doubles squad of Matt Boguslawski and Sam Sweeney kept things close against the region's fifth-ranked doubles tandem in Troy Brinker and Jan Stefanski before ultimately succumbing, 8-5. The Cardinal duo, ranked 13th in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, fall to 11-3 on the season with all three defeats coming against ranked opponents.

In singles, Sweeney and Will Zhang battled in No. 1 action with 10th-ranked Zhang coming away with the upset of the 3rd-ranked junior, winning 3-6, 7-6, 1-0 (12-10), snapping Sweeney's 10-match win streak. Boguslawski stumbled, 6-1, 7-5, against Brinker at No. 2 singles while Josh Clay suffered a, 6-3, 6-4, setback to the Maroon's Garrett Brinker.

With the loss, North Central falls to 2-12 on the season while the Maroons, ranked 15th nationally and fourth within the Central Region, improve to 12-5. The Cardinals return to the courts on Saturday, traveling downstate to Bloomington, Ill. where they will face Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) at 12:30 p.m. before taking on host Illinois Wesleyan University at 4 p.m.
