WHEATON, Ill. (Apr. 19, 2010)-- The North Central College men's tennis team was unable to match the depth of Wheaton College on Monday afternoon, falling 5-4 in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match, snapping a two-game Cardinal win streak.
In doubles,
Matt Boguslawski and
Sam Sweeney picked up the 8-3 win over Wheaton's No. 1 squad of Jordan Williams and Miles Greenwald. It would be the Cardinals' only doubles victory of the afternoon as the Thunder took the No. 2 and No. 3 matches in what ultimately proved to be the necessary margin of victory.
North Central captured the No. 1 through No. 3 matches in singles but struggled to match Wheaton's depth, dropping the No. 4 through No. 6 matches.
Sweeney remained unbeaten against CCIW foes, taking down Taylor Johnson, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 1 while Boguslawski earned the, 6-2, 6-2, win at No. 2 against Williams.
Chris Bennorth earned the Cardinals' third singles victory of the day at No. 3, rallying from an early deficit to win, 0-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) over Wheaton's Corey Chan.
Josh Clay won the opening set at No. 6 before ultimately falling, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, to Colin Johnson.
With the loss, North Central falls to 4-13 overall and 1-3 in CCIW play while Wheaton improves to 6-7 and 2-2 in conference action. The Cardinals host the University of Dubuque in a non-conference dual match on Saturday at Ranchview Park in the first of three straight home matches. Action is slated to begin at 9 a.m.
