Apr. 29, 2010-- Battling windy conditions, the North Central College men's tennis squad closed out its regular season on Thursday, defeating Elmhurst College, 7-2, in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin dual match at Ranchview Park.
In doubles, the Cardinals (6-13, 2-3 CCIW) snagged two of three with the No. 1 tandem of
Sam Sweeney and
Matt Boguslawski topping the Bluejay's (7-11, 0-5 CCIW) David Devaney and Dave Douglass, 8-4, to close out the conference season unbeaten.
Eric McKee and
Josh Clay picked up the victory at No. 3, edging Justin Guenther and Jim White, 8-6.
In singles, Sweeney defeated Devaney in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 1 to finish unbeaten in CCIW action for the second straight season. Boguslawski took down Douglass, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 2 while
Naveed Heydari rallied from an early deficit at No. 3 to pull out the, 2-6, 6-1, 6-0, victory.
Eric McKee needed the second set tiebreaker to knock off White, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), at No. 5 while
Josh Clay closed out the day with the, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5, win at the No. 6 position.
North Central, winners of four of its last five dual matches, return to the court on Friday, May 7, traveling downstate to Bloomington, Ill. for the two-day CCIW Tournament.
