Official CCIW Release
Apr. 6, 2010-- After both hitting automatic qualifying marks at last weekend's First Chance Invitational, North Central College's
Kyle Brady and
Jake Winder have been named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week.
Brady, the 2010 indoor national champion in the 5,000-meters, was named the Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 10,000-meter run on Friday in an automatic qualifying time of 30:06.13. The senior currently holds the fastest time in Division III in the event. This is the second CCIW Athlete of the Week honor for Brady after claiming the award during the indoor season on Feb. 9.
Winder was named the Field Athlete of the Week after winning the pole vault on Saturday with a clearance of 17 feet 1 inch, remaining undefeated against collegiate competition this season. His vault is currently the top mark in Division III and is five inches higher than the next best mark. It is the third time this season the senior has been honored by the conference, winning Field Athlete of the Week accolades during the indoor season on Jan. 26 and again on Feb. 23.
The Cardinals won seven events and recorded five national qualifying performances over the weekend, winning the team title at the outdoor season opener, outdistancing CCIW-rival and runner-up Carthage College by a 153.5-point margin.
North Central returns to the track on Saturday, traveling to the University of Chicago for the Chicagoland Outdoor Championships.
