WENHAM, Mass. (Sept. 5, 2010) - Despite a loss in its first match at the Gordon College Invitational, the North Central College volleyball team was able to claim the tournament championship, sweeping its final two matches to win via a tiebreaker.
The Cardinals (3-1) lost to Endicott College (Mass.), 3-2, in their first match of the day. Trailing, two sets to one, North Central dominated the fourth set, 25-10, to square the match at 2-2 before a 15-9 loss in the decisive fifth frame.
The Cardinals bounced back to sweep Muhlenberg College (Pa.), 25-13, 25-18, 25-14, before doing the same against Keene State College (N.H.), 25-17, 25-20, 25-23.
North Central setter Ryan Lally was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, while outside hitter Jenae Harner also made the All-Tournament Team.
Statistics for each match will be made public as soon as they are available.
The Cardinals are idle until Wednesday, when they travel to Carroll University (Wis.) for a match at 7 pm.
