Jan. 24, 2012-- The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin released its weekly award winners for the indoor track & field season on Tuesday, with North Central College's Zach Heerspink capturing Field Athlete of the Week accolades.

Heerspink earns the honor after winning the high jump and placing second in the long jump at Friday's Cardinal Opener held at the Al B. Carius Track. The junior prevailed in the high jump by clearing six feet, 5 inches, while placing runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 22' 2 1/4". His efforts scored 18 points for host North Central in the team standings as the top-ranked Cardinals ran away with the team title, amassing 347 points.

Heerspink is the third Cardinal to capture CCIW Athlete of the Week honors this indoor season. Distance runner Tim Hird earned Runner of the Week honors on Jan. 17 while pole vaulter John Wood captured Field Athlete of the Week accolades on Jan. 17.

The Cardinals remain in Naperville this weekend, hosting the NCC Quadrangular on Saturday with events getting underway at 12 p.m.
