CCIW Press Release
Feb. 13, 2012 - North Central College's Aaron Tiknis has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 6-12.
Tiknis was selected as the CCIW's top performer on the strength of his performance in the Cardinals' two games last week. North Central picked up a 80-73 victory at Illinois Wesleyan University on Tuesday before a 64-61 loss to No. 19 Wheaton College on Saturday at Gregory Arena.
Tiknis averaged 17.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocked shots for the Cardinals in the two contests. He scored a career-high 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting and also finished with eight rebounds, three blocks and two steals at Illinois Wesleyan, then scored 12 points, pulled down nine rebounds and had two blocks against Wheaton.
Tiknis averages 11.1 points per game this season while leading North Central in rebounds (6.9), assists (3.6) and blocks (1.3) per game. He leads the CCIW in three-point percentage (.545) and ranks second in the CCIW in field-goal percentage (.579).
The Cardinals have now had three players receive Player of the Week honors from the CCIW this season. Landon Gamble received the distinction on Jan. 30 and Derek Raridon was so honored on Jan. 9.
North Central (16-7, 10-2 CCIW) will attempt to clinch at least a share of its second straight CCIW title on Tuesday, traveling to face North Park University (6-17, 2-10 CCIW). Tipoff at North Park Gymnasium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The game can be followed live at wonc.org or www.sidearmstats.com/nparku/mbball/scoreboard.aspx.
