Dec. 8, 2014 - North Central College junior guard Jayme Moten has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 1-7.
Moten became the second Cardinal to be named the CCIW's top-performing player this season after helping keep North Central unbeaten with a pair of wins in California last week. He scored 22 points on 8 of 11 shooting, including a 6 for 8 effort from three-point range, in a 79-77 overtime victory at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Saturday. He made a game-tying three-pointer with 27 seconds left to force overtime, then sank another game-tying triple and assisted on the game-winning basket in the extra session.
He followed with a season-best 25-point outburst on Saturday in a 64-47 win at the University of Redlands. He made 9 of 13 shots from the floor, sinking 6 of 9 three-point shots, while also grabbing five rebounds. For the week, Moten shot 70.8 percent from the floor (17 of 24) and 70.6 percent (12 of 17) from behind the three-point line, and he currently leads the CCIW in three-pointers made per game (3.67).
The Cardinals have received two of the CCIW's last three Player of the Week accolades. Senior forward Charles Rosenberg was so honored for the week on Nov. 17-23 after earning Most Valuable Player honors in the North Central Chicago Marrriott Naperville Tip-Off Tournament.
Ranked 22nd in the most recent D3hoops.com National Top 25 Poll, North Central (6-0) faces 12th-ranked Dickinson College (6-1) in the first round of the Juniata College (Pennsylvania) Comfort Inn Doc Greene Tournament on Friday. Tipoff at Memorial Gymnasium is set for 5 p.m. Eastern time.
