Feb. 25, 2014 - North Central College men's basketball players
Landon Gamble and
Vince Kmiec have been honored with selections to the 2014 All-College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Teams, as voted upon by the CCIW's eight head coaches.
Gamble was selected to the All-CCIW First Team for the fourth consecutive year, while Kmiec was named to the All-CCIW Second Team.
Gamble joins the Cardinals' all-time leading scorer, Bill Warden '55, as the only North Central players to be named to the All-CCIW First Team four times. He ranked first on the team and third in the CCIW in scoring this season (15.5 points per game) while shooting 56.3 percent from the floor and contributing 5.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. He established a career high with 33 points in the Cardinals' season-ending win over Elmhurst College on Saturday, which occurred in his North Central record-breaking 112th career game.
Gamble concludes his career as the program's No. 4 all-time leading scorer (1,616 points) and also ranks second in school history in free throw attempts (593), third in field goals made (618), fourth in free throws made (380), fifth in field-goal percentage (.558), eighth in rebounds (607) and assists (203) and ninth in blocked shots (50).
Kmiec receives All-CCIW honors for the second straight year, having been voted to the Third Team last season. He put up 15.0 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game this season and led the CCIW in steals (55), three-point field goals made (56) and minutes played per game (35.7). He finishes his career as North Central's all-time leader in steals (173) and free-throw percentage (.830) and ranks third in three-pointers made (167) and sixth in games played (102). He also set a single-season school record with 67 steals as a junior in 2012-2013 and tied the single-game school record of five steals on four occasions.
The pair helped lead North Central to 79 wins, a school record for a four-year stretch, including two CCIW Tournament championships, two NCAA Tournament appearances and the Cardinals' first-ever trip to the NCAA Division III Final Four in 2013.
Wheaton College senior guard Tyler Peters was voted the CCIW's Most Outstanding Player, while North Park University guard Juwan Henry was selected the Freshman of the Year and Illinois Wesleyan University's Ron Rose was voted the conference's Coach of the Year.
North Central finished the 2013-2014 campaign with an overall record of 14-11 and a 7-7 finish in the CCIW.
