WARRENVILLE, Ill. (Sep. 26, 2014) -Â With part of the squad traveling to Saturday's NCAA DIvision III Pre-National Meet, the rest of the North Central College men's cross country team still managed to place its five scoring runners in the top 18 individual finishers Friday, posting a second-place showing in the 19-team College of DuPage Invitational at St. James Farm.
The Cardinals finished with a total of 64 points, placing only behind the University of Illinois-Chicago's winning score of 32. The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay was a distant third with 120. UIC's Alex Bashqawi and Kyle Hauser swept the top two spots in the individual competition, crossing the finish line of the 8,000-meter (five-mile) course in 25 minutes, 17.87 seconds and 25:30.98, respectively.
North Central's efforts were paced by Jake Runnion, who placed eighth in the 189-man field in 26:26.94. Daniel Robles finished in 10th place in 26:36.36, followed by Steve Sismelich in 16th (26:54.98), Argeni Bailon in 17th (26:55.99) and Zach Herrera in 18th (26:56.36).
The Division III Pre-National Meet will be held at The Golf Center at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio on Saturday. The Cardinals return to action on Friday at the Notre Dame Invitational.
