Midwest Region Championship Information
Nov. 10, 2016 - After finishing second at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Championship, the North Central College women's cross country team takes on the next challenge of the championship season on Saturday at the NCAA Division III Midwest Region Championship.
The Cardinals finished second to Wheaton College with 73 points at the CCIW Championship. Senior leadership played a large role in the team's performance as Amanda Cortese crossed the line first for North Central, finishing second overall, and Helen Majer and Tori Capoziello followed in eighth and 18th, respectively. Cortese and Majer earned All-CCIW honors for the fourth consecutive year, becoming the sixth and seventh athletes in the program's history to do so.
Junior Allison Hartman and sophomores Hailey Dammeier, Yazmin Nunez, and Rebecca Kaefring will also be competing at the championship this weekend.
North Central returns four runners from last year's race and is looking to improve on its seventh-place finish in 2015. Cortese is the Cardinals' top returning finisher from last year's regional meet, having placed 27th overall.
The women's race starts at 11 a.m at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wisconsin.
