CCIW Press Release
Feb. 9, 2016 - The North Central College men's track and field team has swept the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Athlete of the Week awards for Feb. 1-7, as middle-distance runner Aron Sebhat has been named the Running Event Athlete of the Week and pole vaulter Luke Winder has been recognized as the Field Event Athlete of the Week.
The pair were honored for their efforts in Saturday's Olivet Nazarene University Invitational. Winder, already the NCAA Division III national leader in the pole vault, established a new indoor personal best and broke his own facility record with a clearance of 17 feet, 8 1/2 inches. He now ranks fourth all-time in Division III history indoors in the event and owns a mark seven inches higher than any other competitor in Division III. Winder is tied for the 10th-best collegiate vault in the United States this year, regardless of division, and is the defending Division III indoor and outdoor pole vault champion.
Sebhat, meanwhile, achieved a personal-best time of one minute, 53.33 seconds to win the 800-meter run, also establishing a new facility record. Sebhat's time ranks as the fastest in the CCIW and the second-fastest in Division III this indoor season. An All-American in 2015 indoors in the distance medley relay and outdoors in the 1,500-meter run, Sebhat also ranks fourth nationally in the mile run (4:10.21) this season.
Sebhat and Winder are both now two-time Athlete of the Week honorees in 2016. Winder was recognized Jan. 20 and Sebhat was selected on Jan. 26.
The Cardinals host the Chicagoland Indoor Championships on Saturday at Al B. Carius Track. Competition in running events and field events is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m.
