CCIW Press Release
Apr. 26, 2016 - For the second straight week, the North Central College men's track and field team has collected both of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Athlete of the Week Awards, as
Nick Boesso and
Aron Sebhat have been recognized as the top performers for the week of Apr. 18-24.
Boesso was named the conference's Field Athlete of the Week after achieving personal-best performances in three events at the Augustana College Meet of Champions on Saturday. He placed second in the shot put with a mark of 52 feet, 4 1/2 inches, eighth in the discus throw (156'8") and ninth in the hammer throw (164'2"). Boesso currently ranks first in the CCIW and 19th nationally among NCAA Division III athletes in the shot put while also ranking third in the conference in the hammer and fourth in the discus.
Sebhat, meanwhile, was named the CCIW's Track Athlete of the Week following a record-setting performance in the 1,500-meter run at the University of Illinois Twilight Meet. Up against a field comprised almost exclusively of NCAA DIvision I competition, Sebhat finished first in a 31-man field and hit the finish line in a time of three minutes, 44.85 seconds to break the previous North Central record of 3:47.14 he set last season. An All-American in the 1,500 in 2015, Sebhat now ranks second nationally among Division III competitors this season.
North Central has now claimed half of the CCIW's Athlete of the Week Awards during the current outdoor season. Distance runner
Tim Vazquez and pole vaulter
Luke Winder swept the honors last week.
The Cardinals will send a squad to the Drake Relays this weekend, with competition running from Thursday through Saturday.
