USTFCCCA Top 25 Rankings
May 23, 2016 - The North Central College women's track and field team is ranked No. 13 among NCAA Division III programs heading into this weekend's Outdoor National Championships, according to the pre-championship edition of the National Team Computer Rankings released Monday by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The Cardinals accumulated 58.84 points in this week's rankings, which are based solely off of performances of athletes qualified for the national meet this weekend. Washington University in St. Louis sits at No. 1 for the fifth straight week with 152.86 points, while last season's outdoor national champion, the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, is second with 135.95. Rounding out the top five are Nebraska Wesleyan University, Illinois Wesleyan University and Claremont McKenna-Harvey Mudd-Scripps Colleges (California).
The computer rankings were first introduced during the 2011 season. Mathematical formulae based on current national descending-order lists in all events are used to compile a team's ranking. The purpose of the rankings is to create an index that showcases the teams that have the best potential of achieving the top spots at the Division III National Championships.
The Cardinals will be represented this weekend by
Madison Renfro in the 100- and 400-meter hurdles,
Megan Costanzo in the 5,000- and 10,000-meter runs,
Jessica Sutfin in the 400-meter hurdles,
Kayla Etherton in the hammer throw and
Hayley Falzarano in the javelin throw. Renfro will be seeking a third straight All-America plaque in the 100-meter hurdles after winning the 60-meter hurdles at the Division III Indoor Championships, while Costanzo is chasing a second straight All-America award in the 10,000.
The outdoor championships will be contested at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, running from Thursday through Saturday. Click
