Contact: Clark Teuscher, Sports Information Director, 630-637-5302

Jan. 2, 2018 - After putting up one of the signature scoring efforts thus far this season by any NCAA Division III player nationwide, North Central College senior Alex Sorenson has been designated as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 18-31, making him the first Cardinal to be so recognized thus far this season.

Sorenson broke a 62 year-old North Central single-game record on Saturday by pouring in 54 points on 25 of 29 shooting from the floor, while also grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds, in a 117-72 victory over Robert Morris University-Chicago at Gregory Arena. His point total is the second-highest by a Division III player this season, behind only Muskingum College's Marcus Dempsey, who scored 57 in a 111-104 loss to Oberlin College in a game that was played the same day. Sorenson's 25 made field goals, also a North Central record, are five more than that of any other Division III player this season to date.

Sorenson also put up 24 points and seven rebounds in a 92-78 victory over Albion College on Tuesday, Dec. 19, giving him an average of 39.0 points per game during the holiday break. He currently ranks first in the CCIW in field-goal percentage (.642), second in rebounds (9.7 per game) and sixth in scoring (18.4 points per game).

North Central (7-4, 1-2 CCIW) returns to conference play on Wednesday, hosting Carthage College (7-4). Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
