NCAA Qualifiers
Nov. 12, 2018 – North Central College women's cross country sophomore
Madelyn Scopp will make her first NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country National Championship appearance in less than a week after claiming one of seven individual qualifier spots from the Midwest Region. The NCAA announced the qualifying teams and individuals on Sunday.
Scopp led the Cardinals with a 19th place finish at the Midwest Region Championship on Saturday in Colfax, Wis. with a time of 22:33.8 despite challenging conditions and a snow-covered course. North Central finished eighth as a team against the 35-team field.
Throughout the season, Scopp has been a significant contributor to the team's success. She won the individual title at the season opening Elmhurst College Earlybird Invitational on Aug. 31 which set her up for College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Athlete of the Week on Sept. 4. She established a season-best time of 22:04.8 at the CCIW Championship, placing fourth overall to earn First Team All-CCIW honors and helping North Central to a second-place team finish.
This year's Division III National Championship is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 17 in Winneconne, Wis. at Lake Breeze Golf Course. The women's race begins at 11:15 a.m.
