Feb. 5, 2018 - For the second time this season, North Central College senior Alex Sorenson has been honored as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 29-Feb. 4. This week's selection was announced on Monday.
Sorenson led the Cardinals in scoring in victories over Carthage College (79-75) and North Park University (61-60) last week, averaging 20.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. He finished with 20 points, nine rebounds, four assists, two blocked shots and two steals at Carthage on Wednesday, then made the game-winning three-pointer with 25.1 seconds remaining against North Park to cap off a night which saw him put up 21 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
He also received the award on Jan. 2 after breaking a 62 year-old North Central single-game record by pouring in 54 points on 25 of 29 shooting from the floor in a 117-72 victory over Robert Morris University-Chicago on Dec. 30, and has been a unanimous First Team All-CCIW selection each of the past two seasons.
Sorenson currently leads the CCIW in rebounds (9.3 per game) and field-goal percentage (.621), and leads North Central in scoring (19.0 points per game) this season.
The Cardinals (16-5, 9-3 CCIW) host Augustana College (16-5, 8-4) on Wednesday at Gregory Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
