CCIW Press Release
Apr. 13, 2021 - After placing first in two events with times among the nation's best on Friday, North Central College men's track and field student-athlete Gabe Pommier has earned College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Track Athlete of the Week honors for Apr. 5-11. The announcement, which gives the Cardinals the distinction for the second consecutive week, came from the CCIW on Tuesday.
At Friday's Benedictine University Invitational in Lisle, Pommier stormed to a seven-second in the 1,500-meter run in a personal-best time of three minutes, 47.29 seconds. The time currently stands as the leading mark among all NCAA Division III competitors by nearly four seconds and ranks as the second-fastest in North Central's storied history. Pommier followed the performance later in the meet by winning the 800-meter run in 1:52.98, also a personal best which ranks second in the CCIW and seventh in the nation.
Pommier finished the indoor season as the Division III national leader in the mile run (4:09.10).
The honor comes one week after North Central's Jamauri Spivery was so recognized after clocking a time of 10.85 seconds to win the 100-meter dash in the Cardinals' First Chance Invitational on Apr. 2. The time is the fifth-fastest in the program's history and the fastest by any Cardinal since 2001.
The Cardinals are scheduled to compete at the Wheaton College Invitational on Saturday. Competition at McCully Stadium is set to begin at 3:45 p.m.
