ELMHURST, Ill (Apr. 23, 20021) – Propelled by wins in 11 of the 20 events contested, the North Central College women's outdoor track and field team ran away with the 10-team Elmhurst University Invitational by a sizable margin on Friday night under the lights of Langhorst Field.
The Cardinals finished with a total of 279 points in the meet, while host Elmhurst finished second with 119 points and Wheaton College rounded out the top-three with 88 points.
In two events contested on Thursday at North Central,
Alexandra Draves finished first in the hammer throw with a toss of 158'7", while
Irma Golden came in second with at a throw of 151'00", a personal best and good for fifth on the program's top-10 list and
Faith Ladin turned in a first-place throw of 115'2" in the javelin throw.
Kiarah Horn scored a victory in the pole vault, clearing 10'00", while Golden has now exceeded her personal best in all four outdoor meets this season in the discuss throw, winning the event with a toss of 125'00".
Moving to the track, North Central finished 1-2 in the 400-meter dash, as
Elizabeth Hodonicky came away with the win in a time of 1:01.21, followed closely by teammate
Allison Grady with a time of 1:01.51 to finish second.
Continuing with the sprints, the Cardinals also claimed the top-two spots in the 100-meter hurdles, as
Julia Babinec crossed the line first in 15.10 seconds, while
Denise Partee finished second in 15.28 seconds, good for 10
th on the program's top-10 list. North Central also finished first and third in the 400-meter hurdles, led by
Hannah Jones' time of 1:10.04.
The Cardinals also claimed a first-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay, as the team of
Stephanie Garcia, Partee,
Marcedes Jackson and Grady combined to post a time of 49.91 seconds to narrowly edge out Carthage College, while
Alexis Henz (11:48.05) and
Madzia Myrda (12:13.29) took the top-two spots in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
Staying on the track,
Jenna Fiore ran away with the 5000-meter run, finishing nearly 40 seconds ahead of the second-place runner in a personal-best time of 18:14.35. With the only two participants in the 10,000-meter run,
Nicole Brandy (41:37.79) finished ahead of teammate
Allie Ganser (43:33.14).
North Central returns to action on Friday, Apr. 30 at the Don Church Twilight Meet hosted by Wheaton College in the final tune-up before the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Championships on May 7.
