CHICAGO (Jan. 31, 2022) - In its first competitive trip to the Gately Indoor Track & Field Complex, the North Central College men's track and field teams posted the top collegiate finishes in three events Saturday against a rugged field in the Aurora Grand Prix.
The Cardinals swept the top two places in the 3,000-meter run as James McGlashon and Connor Riss placed first and second and received identical finishing times of eight minutes, 36.81 seconds. Jamauri Spivery and Gavin Carr placed third in their individual events but were the top-finishing collegians as Spivery was clocked in 6.91 seconds in the 60-meter dash and Carr cleared 14 feet, 11 inches (4.55 meters) in the pole vault. Spivery continues to rank 10th nationally among NCAA Division III competitors, while Carr narrowly missed the personal best of 14'11.50" (4.56m) set last week in North Central's Snow Day Invitational.
The Cardinals' 4x400-meter relay team of Juan Castro, Cameron Benes, Tyler Piron and AJ Lehman placed third in a closely-contested race in 3:28.65, just behind the winning time of 3:27.98 posted by the University of Chicago. Castro also clocked a three-second personal best in the 800-meter run (1:56.27) to place fourth overall, coming within a lean at the finish line of third place, and Jacob Kluckhohn finished fifth in the 5,000-meter run (15:35.72) in his collegiate debut.
North Central travels to Olivet Nazarene University's Perry Center Saturday to compete in the Walter Cramer Invitational. Competition is set to get under way at 10:30 a.m.
