BOURBONNAIS, Ill. (Feb. 6, 2022) -
The distance runners for the North Central College men's track and field team proved themselves the class of the Walter Cramer Invitational Saturday, winning the mile, 3,000- and 5,000-meter events in the meet at Olivet Nazarene University.

Cardinals Juan Castro and Logan Tanttu nearly finished in a dead heat at the front of the field in the mile run, as Castro's winning time of four minutes, 40.92 seconds was just ahead of Tanttu's runner-up effort of 4:20.96. Colin Kachlic won the 5,000-meter run in 15:30.79 with Kyle Bell following in third place (15:46.71), while Julian Higueros placed first in the 3,000-meter run in 8:29.95.

Riley Hughes placed third in Saturday's shot put competition with a distance of 46 feet, 5.50 inches (14.16 meters), as did Jason England in the pole vault (13'3.50", 4.05m).

North Central also sent a contingent of athletes to compete in the Tadd Metzger Invitational at Carthage College. Brian Armstrong placed third in the heptathlon with a total of 4,044 points. The total, accomplished in Armstrong's debut in the event, is the third-highest in the Cardinals' history.
