Apr. 12, 2022 - Placing first in five of the 15 contested events, the North Central College men's track and field team prevailed over a five-team field Monday at the
Al Carius Old Fashioned Track Meet, hosted by Wheaton College at McCully Stadium.
The Cardinals scored 117 points to outdistance the host Thunder (106), while Elmhurst University finished third with 42.
Three of the Cardinals' five event victories came in the middle-distance and distance events.
Max Svienty's winning time of 14 minutes, 38.94 seconds in the 5,000-meter run led a 1-2-3-4 sweep of the event as he was folowed by teammates
Connor Riss (14:42.40),
Ishaan Patel (15:00.68) and
Colin Kachlic (15:32.04).
Logan Tanttu and
Juan Castro, meanwhile, ran neck-and-neck throughout the 800-meter run as Tanttu hit the finish line in 1:55.02 with Castro narrowly behind in second place at 1:55.05. Both individuals established personal bests by nearly two seconds.
Julian Higueros won the 1,500-meter run in 4:02.10, followed by
Braden Nicholson in third (4:07.96).
Nick Janca-Schmitt cleared six feet, six inches (1.98 meters) to win the high jump Monday and the 4-by-100-meter relay team of
Kevin Dixon,
Jahron Williams,
Erik Musgrave and
Jamauri Spivery was victorious as well (42.22). Musgrave also placed second in the 110-meter hurdles (16.05) and 400-meter hurdles (55.23), while Spivery finished second in the 100-meter dash (10.91).
Cameron Green and
Gavin Carr tied for second place in the pole vault (13'7.25", 4.15m) and
Jacob Miller finished second in the triple jump (39'5.75", 12.03m). Additional third-place points came from
Brian Armstrong in the long jump (20'10.75", 6.37m),
James McGlashon in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:36.77) and
Tyler Piron in the 400-meter dash (52.05).
The Cardinals sent a contingent of throwers to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater's Rex Foster Twilight Meet Sunday.
Riley Hughes placed first in the discus throw (150'4", 45.82m) and second in the shot put (49'11.75", 15.22m).
North Central hosts the First Chance Invitational Friday.
