WHEATON, Ill. (Apr. 30, 2022) - The North Central College men's track and field team completed preparations for the upcoming College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Outdoor Championships by taking part in the Elmhurst University Invitational Friday. The Cardinals placed a close second in the 15-team event at Wheaton College's McCully Stadium.
North Central won seven events and scored 175 points to finish just six points behind Wheaton, while Aurora University placed third with 109.
Jamauri Spivery lowered the Cardinals' wind-legal program record in the 100-meter dash for the second straight week, placing first with a personal-best time of 10.61 seconds. Spivery also anchored the 4-by-100-meter relay team (teaming with
Kevin Dixon,
Jahron Williams and
Erik Musgrave) to victory in a season-best time of 42.06 seconds.
Gavin Carr's personal-best clearance of 15 feet, seven inches (4.75 meters) brought a first-place finish in the pole vault, and
Riley Hughes prevailed in the shot put with a mark of 48'8.75" (14.85m). The Cardinals swept the distance events as
Drew Guimond finished first in the 3,000-meter run (8:38.42),
John Heneghan won the 5,000-meter run (15:26.03) and
Kyle Bell took the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:59.15).
Logan Tanttu and
Max Svienty placed second (3:57.15) and third (4:01.93), respectively, in the 1,500-meter run and were the top collegiate finishers in the field. Also placing second were
AJ Lehman in the 400-meter dash (50.18) and
Nick Janca-Schmitt in the high jump (6'3.50", 1.91m).
The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Outdoor Championships will be contested May 6-7 at McCully Stadium. Click
