WHEATON, Ill. (May 7, 2022) -
Putting up significant point totals across a broad range of events, the North Central College men's track and field team won its fourth straight College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Outdoor Championship with a united team effort at Wheaton College's McCully Stadium.

The Cardinals scored 157 points to finish atop the nine-team field and 22 points ahead of the host Thunder. Carroll University finished third (110).

North Central won two events, seeing yet another new program standard set by Jamauri Spivery in the 100-meter dash. Spivery won Saturday's final in a time of 10.55 seconds, surpassing the North Central all-conditions record of 10.56 set by Athletic Hall of Famer David Thompson '99 in 1998. Spivery now ranks 16th nationally in the event.

Spivery served as the anchor leg for teammates Kevin Dixon, Jahron Williams and Terrence Hill in the 4-by-100-meter relay, as the Cardinals' winning time of 41.64 seconds put them well ahead of the field. The time matches the 10th-fastest in the program's history and ranks 24th-fastest nationwide.

Williams uncorked a personal-best distance of 22 feet, 1.75 inches (6.75 meters) in the long jump and finished the competition tied with Wheaton's Isaiah Clausen, but Clausen was awarded first place on a tiebreaker. Erik Musgrave was nosed out at the finish line of the 400-meter hurdles by Wheaton's Eli Odell, but his time of 53.24 moves him into seventh place on North Central's all-time list and ninth among Division III compoetitors this season.

Also placing second for the Cardinals were Juan Castro in the 800-meter run (1:54.10), Connor Riss in the 1,500-meter run (3:55.52) and Drew Guimond in the 10,000-meter run (31:18.56).

Achieving third-place finishes were Brian Armstrong in the decathlon (5,150 points), Gavin Carr in the pole vault (14'5.50", 4.41m), Yasmani Rojas in the javelin throw (161'5", 49.19m), Riley Hughes in the shot put (49'11", 15.21m) and Nick Janca-Schmitt in the high jump (6'5", 1.96m).

The CCIW also announced the nine winners of its RESPECT Award for the season. RESPECT Award recipients have distinguished themselves as an integral member of the team, their institution and community by upholding the values of Responsibility, Enthusiasm, Service, Pride, Excellence, Collaboration and Trust. The RESPECT Award recognizes the intangible traits a student-athlete possesses that exemplify great character and encourages inclusiveness and a positive culture. North Central's RESPECT Award honoree is distance runner Braden Nicholson

The Cardinals host the Carius/Gregory Qualifier Thursday and Friday at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
