CHICAGO (Jan. 29, 2023) - In its first road trip of the season, the North Central College men's track and field team was highlighted by its distance runners at the Gately Indoor Track and Field on Friday where the Cardinals finished second out of 16 teams at the Aurora Grand Prix.
North Central swept the top three spots of the 75-person field in the mile run with Connor Riss leading the way and claiming the Cardinals' only event win of the day with a near ten-second personal best time of four minutes and 14.12 seconds. Max Svienty (4:14.92) and Logan Tanttu (4:15.02) turned in their personal best efforts as well to finish in second and third, respectively. Riss also scored in the 800-meter run (1:55.79) with a two-second personal best.
Thomas Rohr completed the 3,000-meter run in a personal best time of 8:31.39 to finish second in the 73-person field while Jacob Kluckhohn clocked a 14:57.93 in the 5,000-meter run to finish third out of 37 competitors.
Also turning in a third-place finish was the distance medley relay of Michael Molloy, Patrick O'Neil, Logan Skidmore, and Jacob Everix with a time of 10:49.27. Gavin Carr finished fourth in the pole vault but was the second-finishing collegian clearing 14 feet, 5.25 inches (4.40 meters).
Loras College claimed the team win with 103 points while North Central followed with 76.5. Trine totaled 73.5 points to finish third as the University of Chicago (64) and Carthage College (58) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Cardinals are set to compete at the Carthage Combined Event and at Olivet Nazarene University's Walter Cramer Open on Friday, Feb. 3, and Saturday, Feb 4.
