LOS ANGELES, Calif. PLATTEVILLE, Wis. WHEATON, Ill. (Apr. 14-15, 2023) - Spreading the team across the country this weekend, the North Central College men's track and field team continues to improve its conference and national marks while
Max Svienty led five Cardinals to the nation's top 30 in the 5,000-meter run on Friday at the UW-Platteville Invitational.
Svienty who already ranks third nationally in the 10,000-meter run (29:14.28) turned in an impressive third place finishing time of 13 minutes, 59.79 seconds in the 5,000 meter run in Platteville on Friday to rank fourth in the nation and break into the No. 12 spot on the Division III all-times list. Svienty is only the second Cardinal ever to complete the 5,000-meter run in under 14 minutes outdoors, sitting just behind Dhruvil Patel's '19 13 minute, 51.40 second run.
Braden Nicholson turned in a time of 14:06.13 to finish sixth in Platteville and moved up to fifth in program history and seventh on the national list. Connor Riss was just behind Nicholson in seventh with his time of 14:09.96 to sit sixth in the program's top 10 and eighth in the nation. Drew Guimond clocked a 14:19.81 to finish 11th and moved up to No. 17 in the nation while Julian Higueros's 16th-place finishing time of 14:26.73 lands him at 27th on the national list.
Out in California, Riley Hughes competed at the Cal State LA Twilight Open and the Long Beach Invitational. His best mark of the weekend in the discus throw, 144 feet, 11 inches (44.40 meters) came at the Beach Invitational while his best shot put mark, 48 feet, 11.75 inches (14.93m) placed him ninth at the Cal State LA Twilight.
Back at Wheaton, Logan Tanttu turned in a personal best effort of 1:53.56 to win the 800-meter run and currently ranks second in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) while Gage Nielsen finished third (1:56.70) and sits fourth in the conference. Austin Emrath won the 5,000-meter run at Wheaton in a time of 15:47.57.
Prentice Myles finished as runner-up in the long jump with a wind-aided leap of 22 feet, 03.75 (6.80m) to rank second in the CCIW. Jamauri Spivery clocked a 10.83-second run in the 100-meter dash to finish third while holding the leading time in the conference.
North Central returns to Wheaton College for the Don Church Invitational on April 22 with the start time at McCully Stadium to be announced.
