METAMORA, Ill. (Oct. 5, 2024)Â - Improving on its finish in the previous year's event by one spot and posting the second-lowest 54-hole round in its history, the North Central College women's golf team closed out its fall schedule with a third-place showing in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Championship, held Thursday through Saturday at Metamora Fields Golf Club.
The Cardinals finished with a team score of 981, a total which ranks only behind the 944 scored by last year's team in a fourth-place CCIW finish. No. 10-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University won its third straight CCIW title with a total of 899, while Elmhurst University placed second with 964.
Illinois Wesleyan's Macy Ludwig won the individual competition with a three over-par total of 216, achieving an 11-stroke margin of victory as the Titans had six of the top nine finishers. Leading North Central with a 10th-place showing and earning All-CCIW honors was
Anna Meinhart, who opened play with a collegiate-best round of 76 Thursday and finished with a score of 240 (76/80/83) to post North Central's sixth-lowest 54-hole total ever.
Mallorie Clifton finished with a score of 241 (81/76/84) to place 11th, while
Madison Place shot 245 (76/83/86) to finish 15th. Place's first-round 76 was also a collegiate career best.
Tatiana Cooper came in 29th at 261 (84/85/92), followed by
Aleksa Gizewicz in 31st (84/92/86-262) and
Caterina Calabria in 38th (87/87/96-270).
Place was also honored as one of the CCIW's nine winners of its RESPECT Award for the season. RESPECT Award recipients have distinguished themselves as an integral member of the team, their institution and community by upholding the values of Responsibility, Enthusiasm, Service, Pride, Excellence, Collaboration and Trust. The RESPECT Award recognizes the intangible traits a student-athlete possesses that exemplify great character and encourages inclusiveness and a positive culture.
