Mar. 19, 2024Â - For the second time this academic year, the North Central College athletics department and the Inclusion Team (IT) partnered with
RISE to Win to tackle important topics around diversity, equity, and inclusion.
RISE to Win is a national nonprofit that educates and empowers the sports community to eliminate racial discrimination, improve race relations, and inspire leaders in sports to create positive change on matters of race and equality. Local collegiate organizations like the Big Ten Conference, Northwestern University, and DePaul University have partnered with RISE along with Chicago professional sports teams such as the Cubs and Bears. Other NCAA Division III institutions like DePauw University (Indiana) and Macalester College (Minnesota) have a partnership with RISE as well. RISE is in more than 40 states with over 500 partners.
Throughout the hour-long sessions, student-athletes, facilitated by RISE, navigated through various diversity concepts. Cardinals discussed the definitions of certain words and the important distinction between phrases used in D.E.I. The workshops ended with key takeaways that these student-athletes can take back to their respective teams.
This initiative by IT serves as the foundation of D.E.I. work for North Central Athletics. IT has hosted Critical Conversations and produced the UBelong social media series that can be found on NCC_Athletics' social media channels.
