Men’s Track Claim First Victory In Cardinal Opener

Jan. 10, 2025 – The North Central College men's track and field team hosted the annual
Cardinal Opener claiming victory over five teams with a staggering 72 points over the next competitor.

North Central finished competition with 218 points, outpacing the University of Chicago in second at 146 points. The Milwaukee School of Engineering was the next closest competitor in third with 140 points followed by Benedictine University (40), Concordia University Chicago (27), and Lawrence University (5).

The Cardinals won eight events throughout the evening including herculean efforts in the field events where Cole Oleson, Daniel Dominguez, James Ammenhauser, and Anthony Zajac each took home victories. The weight throw saw Zajac win with a measurement of 17.91 meters (58 feet,  9 inches) improving to second in the program's top ten with Gavin McAlister also placing fifth with 15.30m (50' 2.50"). Oleson soared in the high jump with a measure of 2.01m (6' 7"). Dominguez secured the win in the shot put with a high heave of 15.54m (51') to make his way into the eighth slot in the program's top ten list. In the triple jump Ammenhauser measured in at 14.20m (46' 7.25") to sneak into tenth in the top ten list with Jayden Leise coming in second with 14.18m (46' 6.25"). Ammenhauser also jumped to second in the long jump with a height of 7.02m (23' 0.25"), marking him fifth in the top ten list. In pole vaulting, Gabe Parker achieved second (3.95m, 12' 11.50") with Michael Ruettiger following back in fifth (3.65m, 11' 11.75").

On the running events side, the 4x400 meter relay came in first with a time of 3:30.65 between Devery Hodge, Parker, Arturo Martinez, and Tyler Piron. The individual events saw Randall Reed claim victory in the 60-meter dash to rise to third on the program's top ten list (6.94) while Marcus Caselberry followed in third place (6.97). In the mile run, Connor Riss snatched a victory clocking in at 4:10.52 to improve his sixth place program top ten time with Braden Nicholson following behind (4:11.94) and Jacob Everix coming in fifth (4:27.90). Aiden Armstrong led the Cardinal victory in the 3000-meter run going the distance in 8:46.61 with Clark Kelly in second (8:49.25), Oscar Frontjes in third (8:51.92), and Owen Dare in fourth (8:52.80). The 60-meter hurdle had Cameron McGonigal snag fourth in 9.56 seconds. Caselberry put in a finish of 22.20 seconds in the 200-meter dash with Reed following with 22.43 seconds.
