Jan. 18, 2025 – The North Central College men's track and field team dominated the annual Pat Heenan invitational claiming six victories with
Kamil Kokot breaking the program's freshman record in the 60-meter hurdle and
Braden Nicholson setting a new Al B. Carius Track record in the 5000-meter run.
Throughout the day the team gathered 221 points to overtake all eleven opponents with the next closest school, Olivet Nazarene trailing by 103 points. Olivet Nazarene held second at 118 points followed by DePaul University (66), Harper College (42), Benedictine University (33), Coe College, Concordia University Wisconsin (25), St. Francis University (24), Judson University (13), North Park University (7), Wabash College (6), and Concordia University Chicago (4).
Leading the charge was freshman Kokot who tallied a lightning-fast 8.29 seconds in the 60-meter hurdle to jump to second in the program's top ten list and topple
Marcus Caselberry's freshman record of 8.41 seconds. The other five event victories came from Caselberry, Nicholson,
Owen Dare, Cole Oleson, and
Jayden Leise. Caselberry found his win in the 400-meter dash (51.39) while also marking a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash with
Randall Reed following in fourth (22.65). Reed also tallied a quick third-place finish of 6.94 seconds in the 60-meter dash to mark an identical time to his last week's third-best time in the program's top ten.
The 5000-meter run saw Nicholson take first with a 14:14.25 to smash the Al B. Carius Track record by over ten seconds and snag a second-place slot on the Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) national list. Following close behind was
Connor Riss with a finish of 14:18.98 to enter into seventh in the all-time top ten and third on the TFRRS list, freshman
Oscar Frontjes in fourth (15:07.77), and
BJ Sorg in fifth (15:08.88). Dare snatched his victory in the mile run with 4:23.42 while
Lucas Hoffman finished a hair behind him with 4:24.90. The high jump had Oleson hop to a measure of 1.95 meters (6' 4.75") for the victory. Leise earned his first-place spot in the triple jump with a measure of 14.31m (46' 11.50") with
Prentice Myles following in second with 13.41m (43' 12").
The Cardinals also swept the second through fifth-best finishes in the 800-meter run between freshman
Nicholas Sadelski (2:03.35),
Frankie Reid (2:04.61), freshman
Brayden Groenenboom (2:04.69), and freshman
Ari Elmayan (2:06.10). The 3000-meter run had freshman Nico Altamore take second (9:17.33),
Logan Keeling take fourth (9:43.73), and
Zachary Erickson take fifth (9:45.74). In the 4x400 relay
Arturo Martinez,
Devery Hodge,
Adam Toren, and
Braulio Flores represented North Central in third with a finish of 3:36.65.
Michael Robinson led the effort in the long jump with a second-place measure of 6.59m (21' 7.50") with
Kevin Fist marking in at fourth (6.55m, 21' 6"). For the weight throw,
Anthony Zajac threw a fourth-place measure of 16.71m (54' 10"). The pole vault saw
Joel Jaquinde take second with 4.15m (14' 9.50") and
Grant Sarris took fourth at 4.05m (13' 3.50"). The Cardinals also had
Daniel Dominguez mark a fourth-place effort in the shot put (14.65m, 48' 0.75").
