BOURBONNAIS, Ill. / LA CROSSE, Wis. (Jan. 25, 2025) – The North Central College men's track and field team traveled to compete in both the ONU Invite and Pat Heely Classic, sealing five event victories while
Braden Nicholson etched his name into the national records.
At the Pat Healy Classic Nicholson flew to a finish of 8:07.30 in the 3000-meter run to enter second in the program's top ten, achieve the best time in this season's national rankings, and ease into the number fifteen slot in the national record books.
In Bourbonnais, the Cardinals claimed four victories between the efforts of
Randall Reed,
Marcus Caselberry,
Ben Balboa,
Jayden Leise, and relay group A (Reed,
Arturo Martinez,
Zach Anderson, and
Braulio Flores). Reed sealed his victory in the 60-meter dash in a lightning-fast 6.99 seconds while Caselberry followed 0.02 seconds behind (7.01). In the 200-meter dash, Caselberry clocked in at first in 22.76 seconds with
Brian Jackson taking second (23.08), Gabriel Parker snatching third (23.26), and
Corey Phillips settling at fifth (23.41). In the 4x400 relay, group A for North Central tallied a 3:28.90 finish between Reed, Martinez, Anderson, and Flores.
Ben Balboa led the Cardinal victory in the shot put measuring in at 15.02 meters (49' 3.50") while
Daniel Dominguez (14.77m, 48' 5.50"),
Gavin McAlister (14.69m, 48' 2.50"), and
Anthony Zajac (14.29m, 46' 10.75") measured just behind. The fifth and final victory came from Leise's 14.00m (45' 11.25") triple jump.
The 60-meter hurdle saw North Central sweep second through fourth place between Nathan Williams (9.02),
Daniel Nwatu (9.12), and
Jonathan Paladio (9.46). Martinez also finished second in the 600-meter run with a 1:25.02. The 800-meter run had
Lucas Hoffman snag second (1:59.77),
Aidan Armstrong take fourth (2:03.51), and
Logan Skidmore settle at fifth (2:03.71). Armstrong led the Cardinals in the mile run with a second place finish of 4:23.81 with
Alex Benkart taking third (4:23.88), and Remy Jankusky taking fifth (4:26.20). In the 3000-meter run
BJ Sorg achieved second (8:38.98) while
Luke Hoffmann took third (8:42.78) and
Owen Christy snagged fifth (8:58.01).
North Central was led by
James Ammenhauser in second (6.74m, 22' 1.50") for the long jump as
Jayden Leise leaped to third (6.42m, 21' 0.75") and
Luke Hemmersmeier jumped to fifth (6.10m, 20' 0.25"). The pole vault had
Joel Jaquinde take the third highest mark (4.15m, 13' 7.25") and Gabriel Parker measure fourth (4.15m, 13' 7.25"). In the weight throw
Gavin McAlister heaved a fourth place measure (15.53m 50' 11.50").
