WHEATON, Ill. (Apr. 12) - The North Central College men's track and field team sent 16 runners to take on top competition in two invitationals this weekend. The team competed in the 5,000-meter run at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Invitational on Friday (Apr. 11) before taking on the Wheaton College Invitational on Saturday (Apr. 12).
In a highly competitive 5,000-meter run at the Platteville Invitational, North Central had five athletes in the top 100 of the 274 participants.
BJ Sorg led the Cardinal team, finishing at No. 31 with a new personal best of 14:29.24. Sorg's time also sits at No. 33 in the national rankings.
Matt Jett took No. 56 with a new best (14:39.20), followed by
Connor Riss at No. 68 (14:46.02),
Aidan Armstrong at No. 79 (14:49.34), and
Owen Christy hit a new personal record to sit at No. 100 (14:55.28).
Saturday, at the Wheaton Invitational,
Kamil Kokot led the 110-meter hurdles, taking first with a 14.88 finish. His time was a new personal best and ranks No. 10 in program history.
Jayden Leise earned a first-place finish with a leap of 14.43 meters (47' 4.25") in the triple jump.
The Cardinals earned second place in five events.
James Ammenhauser leapt for 6.85 meters (22' 5.75") in the long jump and also took second in the triple jump (13.76m, 45' 1.75").
Colton Oleson cleared 2.00 meters (6" 6.75") in the high jump, and
Anthony Zajac hit 52.59 meters (171' 07) in the hammer throw.
Gabe Parker took second in the pole vault, clearing 4.45 meters (14' 7.25"). On the track, the North Central relay group of
Zach Anderson,
Randall Reed,
Brian Jackson, and
Alexander Knight clocked a 41.35 finish in the 4-by-100-meter relay. The relay's time ranks fifth in the program's history. Jackson also took second in the 100-meter dash in 10.89 seconds and is part of a three-way tie for seventh in the program's history.
Jackson also had success in the 200-meter dash, finishing in third place and clocking a time of 21.77. Jackson's time sits seventh in the program's top ten.
Anthony Divenere cleared 4.15 meters (13' 7.25") in the pole vault. The Cardinals' 4-by-400-meter relay of
Zach Anderson,
Arturo Martinez,
AJ Lehman, and Parker took third place (3:21.08). In the field,
Daniel Dominguez threw the shot put 14.31 meters (46' 11.50").
North Central will send athletes to the Bryan Clay Invitational Wednesday, Apr. 16, in Azusa, Calif. Competition begins at 7 a.m.
