WHEATON, Ill. (Apr. 13, 2025) - The North Central College women's track and field team earned three first place finishes in the Wheaton College Invitational field events. The Cardinals took first in the triple jump, the pole vault, and the javelin throw.
Abranet Layne was the top jumper in the triple jump, leaping to 11.44 meters (37' 6.50"). Her jump ties for fifth highest in program history and ranks No. 31 in national rankings.
Gwen Berenyi cleared 3.85 meters in pole vault (12' 7.50") and
Faith Ladin tossed the javelin for 41.78 meters (137' 1").
Robin Lee followed Ladin in the javelin throw, earning a second-place finish with a toss of 37.29 meters (122' 04"). Teammates
Amanda Melton and
Arianna Teichman tied for third place in the discus throw, both hitting a mark of 38.40 meters (16' 10.50"). Also, in a third-place tie was
Natalie Johnson in the pole vault, clearing 3.30 meters (10' 10"). Johnson tied with a University of Chicago athlete.
Another third-place finisher was
Bethany Smeed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase clocking a time of 11:34.39.
Pola Kubrak notched a fourth-place finish in the high jump (1.53m, 5' 0.25"). The North Central 4-by-400-meter relay of
Cali Minkie,
Kyla Miller,
Cire' Smith, and
Lindsey Novak took fifth, posting a time of 4:11.53.
The Cardinals will be back to competition Thursday, Apr. 17, and Friday, Apr. 18, at the Augustana College Meet of Champions. The meet begins at 1:30 p.m.
