ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (Apr. 19, 2025) - This week, the North Central College men's track and field team participated in four competitive meets, and they had great success. The Cardinals set a new program record and saw four national performances.
BJ Sorg and
Braden Nicholson represented North Central at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, Calif. In the 10,000-meter run (Open B), Sorg earned an eight-place finish against nationally ranked opponents. Sorg's finish ranks No. 17 in the nation and No. 10 in the program's history. Nicholson finished No. 19 in the 10,000-meter run (Invite Ht 2) at 29:56.26.
At the Phil Esten Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse,
Emerald Svienty ran in the 10,000-meter run. Svienty finished No. 17, clocking a time of 31:22.21.
Luke Moran,
Cameron McGonigal, and Nico Chavez competed at the Don Church Twilight Meet hosted by Wheaton College. Moran earned fourth place in the 400-meter hurdles and No. 30 in the 200-meter dash. McGonigal finished eighth in the 110-meter hurdles (17.36) and No. 16 in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.98). Chavez took No. 20 in the 100-meter dash, finishing in 11.41 seconds.
The Cardinals earned two second-place finishes at the Augustana College Meet of Champions.
Anthony Zajac broke his own school record, marking 59.00 meters (193' 7") in the hammer throw. Zajac's toss is tied for No. 9 in the national rankings.
Jayden Leise lept to 14.68 meters (48' 2") in the triple jump. Leise's mark sits No. 9 in the nation and No. 7 in the program's top outdoor records. The North Central 4-by-100-meter relay of
Zach Anderson,
Randall Reed,
Brian Jackson, and
Alexander Knight clocked 41.07 seconds for a second-place finish.
In the 10,000-meter run, Nolan Cooks and Kyle Notziger finished in third (31:23.97) and fifth place (31:47.03), respectively.
Marcus Caselberry earned fourth place and a national ranking of No. 15 with a 53.72 second in the 400-meter hurdles. Cole Oleson took fourth in the high jump by clearing 1.96 meters (6' 5").
Also earning a fifth place finish was
Kamil Kokot in the 110-meter hurdles clocking a 15.12-second finish, and
Anthony Divenere in the pole vault, clearing 4.42 meters (14' 6").
Daniel Dominguez finished seventh in the shot put, throwing 15.04 meters (49' 3.75").
North Central will compete at the Drake Relays (Apr. 24 - Apr. 26) and the Elmhurst University Twilight Invitational.
