May 11, 2025 - The North Central College women's track and field team had a busy weekend. Athletes competed in three competitions, with some great times and marks, including
Lindsey Novak breaking her program record.
The Cardinals had two first-place finishes at the USF Fighting Chance Invite, two nationally ranked performances, and three top-ten performances. In the 200-meter dash, Novak had a historic performance, clocking a time of 23.89 seconds and a third-place finish. She improved her school record of 24.23 seconds by 0.34 of a second. Novak's time ranks seventh in the nation.
Kyla Miller took seventh in the event with a time of 24.99, which moves to fifth in the program's top ten records.
Novak earned a first-place finish in the 400-meter finish with a new personal best of 55.12 seconds. Her finish improved her second-place top ten record and ranks tenth in the nation.
Gwen Berenyi notched a first-place finish after clearing 3.50 meters (11 5.75") in pole vault.
Natalie Johnson followed Berenyi in second place with 3.35 meters (11') jump, and Lily Wintergerst tied for fifth (3.05m, 10"). The North Central 4-by-100-meter relay team of
Faith Ladin, Novak,
Cali Minkie, and
Kyla Miller took fifth with a finish of 48.44 seconds.
The program was equally successful at the Augustana College Penultimate Qualifier in Rock Island, Ill. The Cardinals doubled down in the 100-meter hurdles, with
Denise Partee earning first place (15.38) and
Anna Cotter taking second place (15.71). Additionally, Cotter collected a second-place finish in the high jump by clearing 1.44 meters (4'8.75").
North Central also notched a first-place finish in the 4-by-100-meter relay. Ladin, Novak, Minkie, and Dockins earned a 47.54-second place finish. Additionally, Novak earned first place in the 200-meter dash, clocking a 24.76-second place finish.
Abranet Layne placed second in the triple jump, marking 11.53 meters (37'10"). In the hammer throw,
Gabrielle Harding's toss reached 50.09 meters (164' 04"). Harding's mark improved her sixth-place top ten record and ranks No. 46 in the nation.
Arianna Teichman took sixth place with a throw of 44.79 meters (146' 10") and ranks tenth in the program's top records.
Robin Lee earned a fourth-place finish in the javelin throw (37.40m, 122' 08").
Meanwhile, the pole vaulters were hard at work at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse "Uncaged" Eagle Open.
Gwen Berenyi led the group in second place, clearing 3.85 meters (12'7.5").
Natalie Johnson finished at No. 12 (3.55m, 11'7.75") and Lily Wintergerst finished at No. 28 (3.10m, 10'2").
The Cardinals will compete at the Midwest Twilight Qualifier hosted by Augustana College on Wednesday, May 14, and Thursday, May 15. Competition begins at 12:30 p.m. each day.
