Aug. 29, 2025 – The North Central College women's cross country team battled a wet and challenging course at Rockford University's Rock River Invite Friday, Aug. 29. In the first race of the 2025 season, North Central came away with a first-place team finish and four Cardinals placing in the top 10 of the 5-kilometer race.
North Central scored 30 points in the four-team race to take the win while Beloit College finished second with 45 points. Meet host, Rockford, finished third with 48 points and Alverno College was fourth with 112 points.
The Cardinals ran an all-freshman squad in at the Rock River Invite with
Molly Sheridan opening her collegiate career with an individual win. Sheridan crossed the finish line in 20 minutes 31.50 seconds, nearly 13 seconds ahead of the runner-up finisher.
Giselle Alcala turned in a fourth-place finish in her first collegiate outing, clocking a 21:18.4 effort to finish in the top-five.
Leah Ortiz (22:10.1) and
Arielle Manas (22:40.8) finished sixth and eighth respectively to round out the Cardinals top-10 finishers.
Madeline McBeth posted a time of 23:27.9 in her first race of the season, good for a 12
th place finish.
Evelyn Hernandez was the final Cardinal in the field, finishing 22
nd in 26:43.8.
North Central looks ahead to its home meet, the NCCXC Invitational, set to race St. James Farm in Warrenville, Ill. Friday, Sept. 5 at 4 p.m.
