Normal Ill. (Sept. 20) – The North Central College Women's Golf team traveled to Normal for the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic, finished tied for 12
th among a field of 20.
The Cardinals recorded 10 birdies in round one of the tournament with multiple from
Anna Meinhart,
Caterina Calabria,
Madison Place, and
Carley Rogers. Place recorded three birdies in the round and Calabria birdied on back-to-back holes.
Meinhart led the Cardinals for the tournament, placing T19 and shooting a 155 (+11). Meinhart also birdied three times in the second round, fighting the tougher elements in Sunday's action.
Calabria was the second-best scorer on the weekend as she placed T28 and delivered a 156 (+12) for theIWU Fall Classic. Calabria had a strong front-nine on Saturday, shooting one-over-par thanks to her consecutive birdies on holes eight and nine.
Freshman
Quincy Weymouth shot a 165 (+21) and placed T66. Weymouth especially found success on hole 16, a par three. Her first time through, Weymouth took out her 6 iron, hit the pin from 142 yards out, and proceeded to sink a four foot putt. She would generate a second birdie on Sunday's action, shooting two-under on the hole.
Place shot a 166 (+22), Rogers shot a 175 (+31), and
Ansley Ellis shot a 178 (+34).
The Cardinals are in action next weekend, September 27-28 for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Invite being held at TPC Wisconsin.
