Jan. 26, 2010 -- The North Central College men's track & field athletes
Dan Benton and
Jake Winder were honored as College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Men's Indoor Athletes of the Week after guiding the Cardinals to a dominating win Friday night at the First Meet Ever.
Benton raced to victories in both the 200-meter dash (22.58) and the 400-meter dash (49.46) before teaming up with
Jonathan Caron,
Jon Biancardi and
Scott Foley to win the 4x400-meter relay (3:24.58). Benton's time in the 400 was a provisional qualifying time and is currently the second fastest time in Division III.
In the pole vault, Winder won the event in convincing fashion after clearing a provisionally qualifying height of 16 feet 4 3/4 inches, nearly a foot higher than the runner-up in the event. His vault is currently the best mark in Division III this season and is four inches higher than the next closest competitor on the national list.
The Cardinals dominated the meet on Friday, winning 13 of the 16 events contested to outdistance runner-up University of Dubuque 217 to 93 in the team tally.
North Central will host the NCC Triangular Meet on Friday, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
