Cepele Leads Men's Golf in Third-Place Effort

 The North Central College men's golf team returned from a 12-day break in competition by co-hosting the Naperville Collegiate Invitational Sunday and Monday, placing third in an eight-team event which featured 36 holes on two courses.

After posting a total of 325 at St. Andrews Golf and Country Club in West Chicago on Sunday, the Cardinals carded a 320 at Cress Creek Country Club in Naperville on Monday for a final score of 645. Carthage College won the event with 632, while Wheaton College was six strokes back in second place.

Carthage's Austin Braska won individual medalist honors with a score of 154, posting a one-stroke win over runner-up Sean Harreld of Aurora University. Tying for third with a score of 156 was North Central's Raymond Cepele, who led the Cardinals' charge for the first time this fall. Lincoln Slagel also finished in the top 10, tying for sixth place with a total of 158.

Rounding out the Cardinals' scoring were Eric Gruber in 17th place (164) and Glenn Miller in 23rd (167).

North Central travels to Trappers Turn Golf Club in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin on Sep. 29-30 for the NCAA Division III Midwest Region Classic.
