DECATUR, Ill. (Apr. 21, 2026) - North Central College men's golfer Jake Delaney opened the Millikin Butts Classic with a team-low 71 on Monday on his way to a seventh-place finish, the best result of his Cardinal career. North Central placed 14th in the two-day, 54-hole event at the Country Club of Decatur.

Delaney's opening round featured four birdies and a 34 (-2) on the front nine before he closed at 71 (-1). Tre Wienke and Rylan Lother each carded a 78 (+6), while Carter Stephenson posted a 79 (+7). With a short turnaround into round two, Delaney played the front nine even and finished with a 74 (+2). Wienke recorded two birdies in his 75 (+3), with Stephenson adding a 76 (+4) and Lother a 77 (+5) to complete the Cardinals' afternoon scoring.

Delaney again led North Central on Tuesday with a 77 (+5) to secure seventh place, the highest finish by a Cardinal this season. He totaled a 222 across 54 holes. Wienke placed 38th with a final-round 78 (+6) to finish at 231. Lother tied for 63rd after an 84, while Stephenson tied for 70th with an 89 (+17). Matthew Jachim contributed to the team score with an 86 (+14) to take 77th.

North Central posted a 933 (306/302/325) as a team. The second-round 302 matched the Cardinals' season low, first set at the Benedictine Fall Invite in September. North Central returns to action Thursday at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Preview at Aldeen Golf Club in Rockford, Ill. Play begins at 1 p.m. in the final dress rehearsal before the conference championship.
