Kansasville, Wis. (Sept. 26) – The North Central College men's golf team excelled at the Midwest Region Classic this weekend, tying for fifth in a field of 43 teams. The Cardinals' 36-hole score of 587 was their lowest of the season, while their second-round 287 set a new 18-hole team low. North Central's one-under-par performance in the second round was the second-lowest second-round score in the tournament.

Sophomore Rylan Lother led the way for the Cardinals, tying for fifth overall with a 143 (-1). Lother opened the tournament with a 73 and three birdies before setting a new NCAA career low with a two-under-par 70 on Saturday. The second-round performance moved him up 18 spots on the leaderboard. Lother carded five birdies and played a bogey-free back nine with eight pars and a birdie.

Jake Delaney was also sharp this weekend, tying for 33rd overall with a 148 (+4). Like many of his teammates, Delaney had his strongest round on Saturday, shooting a 73 (+1) for his lowest round of the season.

Joe Luchtenburg tied for 42nd with a 149 (+5). Luchtenburg and the rest of the Cardinals found success on the back nine in the second round, highlighted by a collective two-under-par performance on the par-5 16th hole. Luchtenburg contributed a birdie on the hole.

Lundaa Hayanhirvaa tied for 101st in the tournament and delivered an excellent second round, matching Lother with a two-under-par 70. Hayanhirvaa recorded three birdies against just one bogey on his way to setting a new career low.

With their rounds of 70, Lother and Hayanhirvaa joined nine other Cardinals in the program's top 10 for the lowest 18-hole rounds in North Central men's golf history.

Lother's 143 also tied him for fifth in the program record book for the lowest 36-hole score in North Central men's golf history.

Alec Rogers tied for 141st in the event with a 157 (+13).

The North Central College men's golf team returns to action Tuesday, Sept. 29, at the Benedictine University Eagle Invite. The tournament will take place at St. Andrews Golf and Country Club in West Chicago, Ill.
