Men's Golf Finishes 15th at Augustana Invitational

MILAN, Ill. (Apr. 11, 2015) -
The North Central College men's golf team finished 15th of 20 while freshman Felix Valentin finished in the top 40 individually in one of the most competitive tournaments of the season at the Augustana College Invitiational.  

The Cardinals shot 679 combined over the course of the invitational. The team shot 340 after play on Friday and followed on Saturday with a 339. 

Illinois Wesleyan University took first-place by shooting a 614 and Indian Hills Community College (620), Illinois Wesleyan's B' team (636), Rend Lake Community College (638) and Augustana (648) round out the top-five. 

Valentin had a good showing at the invitational but started off slow by shooting an 86 on Friday. He followed that with a strong showing after shooting 79 and finishing with 165 strokes overall. His score would tie him 37th overall for the tournament. 

Ray Cepele (170) finished tied for 63rd and Lincoln Slagel (171) followed by one stroke which would be good enough to tie for 70th. Eric Gruber (175) and Glenn Miller (179) tied for 90th and 97th respectively. 

The Cardinals continue play on Thursday at the Elmhurst College Spring Invitational in West Chicago, Ill. at St. Andrew's Golf Course. The team tees off at 11:00 a.m. and all results can be found at northcentralcardinals.com
