SOMERS, Wis. (Apr. 21, 2015) - The North Central College men's golf team competed at the Carthage College Spring Invitational where the team finished ninth in a nine-team field but sophomore Lincoln Slagel was a positive for the Cardinals and shot well enough to tie for fifth.
The Cardinals had a rough outing at the Kenosha Country Club where they shot 361. The hosting Red Men took first where their top group shot a 295 and their second group finished in second place with a 314. Elmhurst College shot 322 as a team, good enough for third place, and the Red Men's third team shot 326 to take fourth place. The College of DuPage tallied in a 327 performance to round out the top-five teams.
The Red Men placed five of their golfers among the top five as Slagel was the only opponent to place with them. Kyle Brenkman (78) and Sean Lenchner (78) of Elmhurst were the only other contestants outside of the Red Men and the Cardinals to place in the top 10.
Slagel (76) was a bright spot in the day for the Cardinals after shooting six over-par. The next ranked Cardinal was freshman Glenn Miller (85) who tied with four others for 27th.
Junior Eric Gruber (87) finished tied for 36th while freshmen Kevin Whalen (96) and Vincent Vazquez (99) placed 52nd and 55th respectively.
The Cardinals travel to Gibson Woods Golf Course in Monmouth, Ill. for the Scot-Fire Invitational on Friday. The golfers tee off at 12:00 p.m. and all results can be found at northcentralcardinals.com
