SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (May 2, 2015) -
Posting four of its best seven competitive rounds of the spring, the North Central College men's golf team saved the best effort for the final weekend of its season, turning in a fourth-place finish in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Championships at The Rail Golf Club.

The Cardinals' finish is their best since placing fourth in a seven-team field in 1998, and North Central finished in the top half of an eight-team CCIW Championship for the first time since 1992.

The Cardinals finished the 72-hole tournament with a score of 1,230 strokes. Illinois Wesleyan University won the championship with a three under-par total of 1,149, followed by Carthage College (1,170) and Millikin University (1,186). Elmhurst College was just behind North Central with 1,232, while Augustana College (1,246), Wheaton College (1,246) and North Park University (1,406) rounded out the field.

North Central's two best 18-hole team scores of the season were achieved during the weekend, as the Cardinals turned in a score of 300 in Thursday's first round before carding a 303 in the final round Saturday.

Illinois Wesleyan's Kenny Wienckowski was the CCIW's individual medalist, carding a four-day total of 285, including a three-under 69 in Saturday's final round, to finish two strokes ahead of Millikin's Blaine Buente. North Central was led by freshman Glenn Miller, who finished just outside the top 10 by placing 11th with 296. Miller also finished strong with a final-round score of 70, the Cardinals' best individual round of the season and the third-best in the field on Saturday.

Eric Gruber finished 17th for the Cardinals (305), while Lincoln Slagel finished 19th (307) and Raymond Cepele completed North Central's scoring by placing 37th (325).
