Benedictine Relays Results
Apr. 13, 2019 - The no. 1-ranked North Central College men's track and field team traveled the short way to the Benedictine University Relays and dominated the two-day meet, winning by 98 points, while another group of distance runners ran the 5,000-meter run at University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Saturday.
The first win of the weekend came on Friday night for North Central, with
Michael Anderson,
Cameron Benes,
Chris Buechner, and
Brendon Sebastian winning the 4x800-meter relay in seven minutes, 48.46 seconds.
Saturday came with more of the same for top-ranked Division III team, with four first-place finishes coming throughout the day.
Nick Janca scored his first win of the season in the high jump, leaping over the bar set at 6 feet, 8 inches to win by over two inches.
Senior
Peyton Piron took the track in the 400-meter dash and completed the one lap in 48.36 seconds. He was also joined in the 4x400-meter relay by
Gavin Cernek,
Maceo Findlay, and
Michael Stanley who finished first with a time of 3:17.88, winning the event by five seconds. Cernek took sixth (57.60) in the 400-hurdles, while Stanley placed fifth in the 400 (49.57), and Findlay seventh in the 100 (11.32).
Erik Musgrave took the victory in the 400-meter hurdles, running a new North Central personal best of 55.53 seconds, besting his record by over a second.
Kyle Hilton took second in the event, completing the race in 56.17 seconds. Hilton also took second in the 110-meter hurdles (15.59 seconds).
In the 5,000-meter run, the Cardinals took two of the top-four places, with Gabriel Pommier in second (15 minutes, 8.53 seconds) and
Al Baldonado taking fourth (15:16.96). The 1,500-meter run was much of the same, with Zack Michael (4:06.77) and
Ryan Ziolkowski (4:07.27) taking third and fourth, respectively.
Back in the field events,
Vaughn Hobart battled the wind on his way to a 13 feet, 9.25 inch vault on his way to a second-place finish in the event. Senior
Casey Wood also vaulted the same height, but placed tied for fourth on misses.
North Central also sent a squad to University of Wisconsin-Platteville to take part in the competitive 5,000-meter run on Saturday. The race was highlighted by
Nolan McKenna, who finished the race in 14 minutes, 30.69 seconds and finished third overall out of 110 individuals.
