2019 GCAA All-Academic Teams
2019 GCAA All-America Scholars
July 24, 2019 -Â For the fourth consecutive year, the North Central College men's golf program has earned recognition for its academic achievement by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), which has named the Cardinals one of 193 All-Academic Teams nationwide. North Central junior
Hiromitsu Washizu, meanwhile, earned individual recognition as one of the GCAA's All-American Scholars.
The Cardinals are one of 30 NCAA Division III men's collegiate teams throughout the nation to meet the GCAA's qualifying standard of a 3.00 cumulative team grade-point average. The only other College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) representative on the All-Academic Team list is Illinois Wesleyan University.
Washizu is one of 121 Division III players to earn individual academic honors from the GCAA, which required a minimum GPA of 3.2 and a minimum stroke average of 79.0 per 18-hole round. He turned in a team-leading stroke average of 77.17 during the 2018-2019 campaign, the sixth-lowest in the program's history, and earned All-CCIW honors with an eighth-place finish at the conference championship. Washizu is a three-time Academic All-CCIW selection and this year earned induction into the National College Athlete Honor Society, Chi Alpha Sigma.
Washizu's award is the third such distinction earned by a North Central golfer, joining
Lincoln Slagel '17, who was so honored in 2016 and 2017.
The Cardinals open the 2019 fall campaign Aug. 30-31, competing in the Culver's Edgewood College Fall Classic at Glen Erin Golf Club in Janesville, Wisconsin.
